Escape from Tarkov Level Up Fast Guide 2026 — XP Methods for Season 1
Updated 28 Aug 2026 · By Marcus Feld
How Levelling Works in EFT
Escape from Tarkov calculates XP from three sources in every raid: quest objectives completed, actions taken during the raid (kills, loot examinations, skill use), and the survival bonus. The survival bonus adds 13% to all XP earned in the raid if you extract alive — which is why survival is always the highest-priority goal, not kill count.
Dying loses the survival bonus and ends XP accumulation for that raid immediately. Two 20-minute raids where you extract alive typically yield more XP than one 40-minute raid where you die with more kills.
Level 1 → Level 2: The Fast Start
The single fastest way to reach Level 2 is to inspect all traders immediately after character creation:
- Open each trader in the hideout screen (Prapor, Therapist, Fence, Skier, Peacekeeper, Mechanic, Ragman, Jaeger)
- Click through every item in their assortment to examine it
- Each unique item examination grants XP — first-time examination awards more
- This alone is often enough to push you to Level 2 without a single raid
Level 2 is a meaningful threshold: it unlocks the first wave of starter quests from Prapor and Therapist, which are the core of early XP progression.
Quest XP — The Primary Engine
Quests are the single largest XP source in EFT, often granting 10,000–50,000 XP per completion on top of any in-raid XP earned while completing objectives. Prioritise these traders for early quest chains:
- Prapor — First quest chain; primarily Customs objectives; unlocks essential item barters
- Therapist — Medical item and item retrieval quests; consistent XP and medical supply rewards
- Skier — Customs-heavy chain; some require item handovers, others map knowledge
- Mechanic — Weapon modification and technical quests; harder but high XP rewards
Complete every available quest before launching a raid, then target the map where you have the most active objectives. Multi-objective raids stack XP far faster than grinding without quest targets.
Maximising the Survival Bonus
The 13% survival bonus applies to all XP earned during a raid. On a raid where you earned 50,000 XP from objectives and kills, extraction adds another 6,500 XP. Over 50 raids this compounds significantly.
Practical application:
- Extract when you have completed your objectives — do not linger for one more fight
- Know your extract locations before loading in, not while bleeding out
- Use low-cost kits on high-risk maps rather than expensive gear you hesitate to lose
- Insurance lets you run gear you might otherwise leave behind; items return on death and you keep the XP
Daily and Weekly Tasks
Daily tasks unlock at character level 5. Weekly tasks unlock at character level 10. Both are available from Fence in the trader screen.
Daily tasks refresh every 24 hours at the same fixed time regardless of when you complete them. Weekly tasks refresh every Monday. Each completed task grants XP and Roubles on top of the objective’s in-raid XP.
Daily tasks are worth completing every day even if the objectives look difficult — the XP stack and Fence loyalty gains from Daily task completions also reduce your Scav cooldown over time.
Best Maps for Levelling
Customs (Early Game)
Customs is the right starting map. It is medium-sized, has predictable Scav spawn locations, holds a high density of Prapor and Skier quests, and has multiple extract options. Most starter quest chains are designed around Customs — completing them here first frontloads a large XP burst before you need to learn other maps.
Factory (Kill XP)
Factory is a close-quarters map with guaranteed early contact. It does not have many quest objectives but grants consistent kill XP in a short raid timer, making it efficient for levelling combat skills (strength, endurance, weapon mastery). Run Factory when you need kill-based quest objectives quickly.
Woods (Mid-Game Tasks)
Woods holds several Jaeger and Shturman-related quest objectives that appear in mid-level chains. The large open terrain makes surviving easier for players unfamiliar with the map — Scavs are more spread out and fights are easier to disengage from.
Early Gear Recommendations
The best early-game strategy is kitting low enough that losing gear hurts minimally, while carrying enough to survive contact and complete objectives.
Weapons
- Mosin-Nagant (bolt-action) — Cheap, one-shot potential to thorax or head. Ammo is inexpensive. Covers long-range engagements on Customs and Woods.
- PPSh-41 — High rate of fire, cheap ammo, effective against unarmoured Scavs. Buy from Prapor Level 1.
- VPO-136 — Semi-auto, cheap, fires the common 7.62×39 round. Reliable mid-range option in early raids.
Armour and Helmets
- Highcom Trooper TTPC (Level 4) — Best early armour available. Buys survival time against Scav fire and glancing PMC hits. Purchase from Ragman or Flea at moderate cost.
- Fast MT (or any face-covering helmet) — Prevents one-tap headshots from Scav shotguns. Prioritise face coverage over pure armour class for early raiders.
Headset
- MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X — The best budget competitive headset. Amplifies quiet footsteps while compressing loud gunshots. Essential for survival-focused play and available from Ragman Level 1.
Per-Raid XP Checklist
- Accept all available quests before loading in
- Examine any items you have not seen before (first-examine XP bonus)
- Complete quest objectives in the raid
- Kill Scavs opportunistically — each kill grants base XP plus weapon mastery
- Loot killed enemies (loot examination XP for each new item type)
- Extract alive to collect the 13% survival bonus
- Turn in completed quests immediately after extracting

FAQ
How fast can you level in EFT Season 1?
With aggressive quest stacking and daily task completion, reaching level 20–25 in the first week of a wipe is achievable for experienced players. Casual play with survival-focused runs typically reaches this range in two to three weeks.
Do Scav kills count toward PMC quests?
Most Scav-kill quests count only kills made as a PMC. A few trader quests specify any character — read objective text carefully before grinding Scav runs for quest credit.
Is it worth running Factory for XP?
Factory is efficient for kill-based objectives and combat skill levelling but provides less quest XP than Customs or Shoreline. Use it specifically for kill-count quests and weapon mastery rather than as a primary levelling map.
